Northland Pattern Wall: The City of Past and Future Craft
Dennis Maher with The Assembly House
Northland Workforce Training Center | 2019
The City of Past and Future Craft is a three-dimensional wall mural built for the public lobby of the Northland Workforce Training Center in Buffalo, NY. The design incorporates components built by students in the SACRA program at The Assembly House—including wood inlays, molding profiles, joinery, architectural models and other crafted details—and blends them with wooden pattern relics found within the former Niagara Machine and Tool Works, the site of the wall’s installation. Together, the SACRA designed artifacts and historic relics construct an imaginary cityscape that celebrates and re-imagines craftsmanship.
